Indonesia Young Leaders Programme

“The idea is creating a skill-development program for people with disabilities. This will act as a driver for the readiness of people with disabilities to join the labor force.”

The aim of the project is to increase Inclusive Job Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Main Objectives:

  • To break down barriers or stigma between disability and employment opportunities.
  • To start networks of young champions with disabilities.
  • To develop Tenoon’s credibility as one of the platforms that support an inclusive work environment.

The Tenoon Inclusive Internship Initiative, led by Fauzan Ade Azizie, aimed to increase inclusive job opportunities for people with disabilities (PwD) by connecting them with employers through internships. Initially, the project sought to create awareness among companies about inclusive hiring and provide workplace experience for PwD. However, challenges arose when large corporations had complex hiring policies, making it difficult to secure placements. As a result, the project shifted its focus to smaller organizations, successfully partnering with Dompet Dhuafa, which agreed to host two interns. The program also included pre-internship training on workplace skills and disability equity workshops for employers to create a supportive work environment.

Unfortunately, the internship program was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing the team to rethink their approach. In response, the project pivoted to an online Social Media Learning Workshop designed to equip PwD with digital skills, such as content creation, social media management, and graphic design. Conducted over several months, the workshop trained eight Deaf participants through virtual learning sessions, assignments, and discussions. Participants then applied their skills in a group project, where they managed two advocacy-focused social media accounts: Difusi.id, which raises awareness about disabilities, and UnlimitedPossibilities.up, which shares inspiring stories of PwD. This initiative not only enhanced their employment prospects but also empowered them as digital advocates.

Despite facing setbacks, the project successfully built a network of young PwD advocates, strengthened Tenoon’s reputation as a leader in inclusive employment, and created lasting impact through skill development. While the initial goal of securing long-term employment opportunities was not fully realized, the alternative project exceeded expectations in equipping PwD with valuable, marketable skills. The experience also highlighted the importance of adaptability in project management, the need for ongoing corporate engagement, and the potential of digital platforms to bridge employment gaps for PwD.
