BaKTI was established in 2004 as part of the Support Office for Eastern Indonesia (SOfEI) knowledge exchange unit, a multi-donor project administered by the World Bank. On 24 August 2009, to strengthen local ownership and ensure sustainability, BaKTI was officially transformed into a foundation under Indonesian law. The BaKTI Foundation was formally inaugurated on 8 February 2010.
Originally created as a knowledge bank and public information resource for development in Eastern Indonesia, BaKTI responds to a long-standing challenge: despite the region being the focus of numerous international, national, and local development initiatives, much valuable knowledge and lessons learned have not been fully utilized in shaping future development plans.
BaKTI exists to bridge that gap by providing a platform and tools that enable donors, government institutions, and communities to access, store, share, and discuss development information. Through this role, BaKTI fosters informed dialogue on development priorities, influences decision-making, and supports the growth of knowledge-based development initiatives.
